Salesforce Summer '24 Release

Lightning Experience

Effortlessly manage data retention and change tracking with the enhanced Field History Tracking and Field Audit Trail features. Ideal for tracking carbon footprinting records, the new interface in Setup allows toggling field tracking for any object on a single page. As a Sustainability Manager or Auditor, monitor change history on all critical data fields seamlessly. This streamlined process boosts admin productivity with quick setup of Field History Tracking, ensuring accurate data management.

Quickly understand a user’s access with the new User Access Summary feature. Instead of hundreds of clicks, admins can now see user permissions, object CRUD, FLS, custom permissions, group, and queue memberships in just one click. Navigate to Setup, select a user, and click the View Summary button. This boosts admin productivity by streamlining the process of determining user permissions.

Easily understand what a Permission Set or Permission Set Group grants with the new summary feature. Instead of making hundreds of clicks, admins can now see a summary in under five clicks. Navigate to Setup, select Permission Set or Permission Set Group, and click View Summary. This boosts admin productivity by providing a quick overview of access permissions and simplifying the management process.

Quickly understand where a public group is used with the new Public Group Summary feature. Instead of struggling to see what a public group grants access to, admins can now view the most used places for public groups in under five clicks. Navigate to Setup, select Public Groups, and click View Summary. This enhances admin productivity by providing a clear overview of sharing rules, report and dashboard folders, and list views associated with public groups.

User Access Policies are now generally available, allowing automatic application of access when users are created or updated, eliminating manual assignment or custom code. Admins can mass change user access using these policies. Configure by navigating to Setup -> User Management Settings -> Turn on user access policies, then Setup -> User Access Policies -> Create new policy. This feature enables admins to quickly auto-assign access based on user creation or update, and mass migrate user access, boosting admin productivity.

Mobile

Salesforce Mobile App & Mobile App Plus

Ensure productivity offline with the new Mobile Offline feature, a pro-code, LWC-based offline app experience. Organizations can now keep data consistent with regular syncs and record conflict resolution. Within the Salesforce Mobile App, select an offline app from the app launcher to enable this feature. This is ideal for reps needing to view and edit customer details while on the road, ensuring productivity even without an internet connection.

Dynamic Forms is now available on mobile, allowing admins to use drag-and-drop tools in Lightning App Builder to optimize field-level visibility on records. This feature improves page load-time performance and simplifies the end-user interface. The setup process mirrors the desktop experience. This is particularly useful for sales reps who need to see more fields than their counterparts in the same profile, reducing admin time for configuring pages on mobile.

Dynamic Actions is now available on mobile, allowing admins to enable conditional rules for actions on record pages configured in Lightning App Builder. This adds flexibility and control to actions on your record pages. The setup process mirrors the desktop experience. Ideal for organizations that want to trigger actions based on specific criteria for different users, this feature reduces admin time needed to configure actions for mobile.

Salesforce Flow

Flow Management

The Automation Lightning App offers a new way for admins and marketers to access Flow Builder and related tools. It allows for efficient management of flows with features like search, categorization, and availability outside of setup. Accessible from the Lightning App Launcher, simply search for Automation to navigate to the app. This tool provides a customizable list view for searching and organizing flows, along with custom category fields for classification. It enhances the flow management experience by offering a dedicated home page for better organization and management of flows outside of Setup.

General Flow Enhancements

Flow Builder loading speed has been significantly improved with automatic performance optimizations, dramatically reducing the time required to load global variables. This enhancement is particularly beneficial for organizations with a large number of variables, such as Custom Labels, making the experience of editing flows much smoother. By enabling these optimizations automatically, admins can now enjoy faster loading times when selecting variables in property editors within Flow Builder, leading to a more efficient workflow and happier users.

The easier Flow Resource Selection rollout has expanded to more elements, making it simpler to locate and choose flow resources quickly and efficiently. In version 250, the friendly resource picker is now auto-enabled in the Decision element and other elements like Action, Subflow, Loop, Collection Sort & Filter, Recommendation Assignment, and Orchestrator Stage & Step. This update helps users find resources with friendlier label names, helpful tooltips, grouped resources, breadcrumbs for context, and intuitive icons, reducing the time to find the right resource and minimizing errors.

The new Label-First Toolbox and Simplified Panel streamline naming and finding elements in the toolbox. In Auto-Layout mode, adding an element auto-generates unique Label and API Name values for seamless editing. Elements are listed by label in the toolbox, and hovering over the tooltip icon shows the API name and label. This update simplifies element panel headers and ensures elements are listed in a user-friendly manner, providing seamless element naming and more consistent editing.

The Schedule-Triggered Flow Debug feature allows users to test multiple records when building and debugging scheduled flows. In flows with batches configured in the start node, users will see a new record selection option when pressing Debug. Once the debug runs, they will see an additional card displaying the total number of affected records. This enables admins to quickly test flows on different records and evaluate the overall impact without activating or running into limits, improving debug and testing efficiency for scheduled flows.

The new Check for Duplicates on Create feature allows users to look for matching records and determine what to do when a match is found. When configuring a Create Records element, users can now define search criteria and specify actions for matching records, independent of duplicate/matching rules. This helps prevent the creation of duplicate records without relying on duplicate rules, ensuring data accuracy and providing more flexibility when creating records in Flow.

Configure conditions more easily in Flows with the new IsBlank and IsEmpty operators. These new operators address the inconsistency of how isNull behaves. Instead of using isNull, use isBlank to check for both null and blank values. For collections, use isEmpty to verify if a collection contains items, eliminating the need for additional steps. This update ensures much more consistent behavior across all data types and simplifies checking for empty collections.

Screen Flows

Repeaters are now generally available, enabling users to create lists of data at runtime. This feature is ideal for collecting multiple sets of data without rerouting users back to the same screen. Use cases include adding work and education history to job applications and adding vehicles and drivers to insurance policies. To configure, add a Repeater component to your screen, drag other components into it, add a Loop to map data, and use Create Records or an external callout to commit the data. This keeps users on the same screen, increasing efficiency and user satisfaction.

The new Conditionally Disabled and Read-Only Input States feature allows flow builders to enforce business logic by restricting or allowing input based on specific conditions. This helps funnel users through form completion and summarize information. Use cases include disabling inputs until key information is provided or summarizing information entered in previous steps. Configure by setting the ‘Disabled’ or ‘Read-Only’ inputs for supported components to $GlobalConstant.True / $GlobalConstant.False or using a boolean formula resource. This ensures users cannot edit fields, enhancing data integrity and business logic enforcement.

Address Component Enhancements now include State and Country Picklist support, allowing flow builders to update address fields using StateCode and CountryCode to avoid system errors. This feature is essential when updating or creating a State or Country on a record. To configure, ensure the ‘State and Country Picklist’ feature is enabled, and use the Country Code and State or Province Code outputs instead of the Country Value and State Value outputs when updating or creating a record. This enhancement allows flow builders to efficiently use the Address component with State/Country Picklists enabled.

Address Component Enhancements now include the Google address lookup feature, allowing users to fill in addresses faster. Instead of entering address details field by field, users can search for an address and have all fields autocomplete. To configure, enter {!$GlobalConstant.True} in the Enable Google Maps Search Field in the component, specify a label for the search field, save, and run the flow. Note that Google lookup is not supported in certain environments like Playground, Experience Builder sites, Lightning Out, and standalone apps. This enhancement enables users to complete addresses much more quickly.

The new Action Buttons (Beta) feature allows flow builders to keep users on the same screen by running autolaunched flows within the screen, creating more dynamic screen flows. This prevents context switching, speeds up form completion, reduces mistakes, and unlocks new use cases. Examples include performing a callout to return estimated shipping costs or retrieving associated products and price book entries after selecting a Price Book. To configure, design your screen, create or re-use an active autolaunched flow, add your Action Button, and use the action’s results in other components. This enables building even more dynamic screens by querying data and executing complex logic on a single screen.

Generate Dynamic Choice Options allows collection choice sets to be reactive and respond to changes on the same screen. This feature keeps users on the same screen when completing screen flows, enabling dynamic updates to choice options. Use cases include selecting an account to generate a set of contacts or generating shipping options and prices based on user data. To configure, begin with a component that outputs a record collection, define a Collection Choice Set resource, and use it as a choice option for components like Choice Lookup, Radio, Picklist, Checkbox Group, or Multi-select Picklist. This enhancement reduces decision fatigue by enabling dynamic choice generation on the same screen.

Integrations & Actions

With the new Lock a Record feature, users can now lock or unlock Salesforce records using a Flow. Before Summer ’24, this required APEX or an Approval Process. Now, you can add the “Lock Record” action to your flow, configure it with the target record and desired action (Lock or Unlock), and optionally specify a group or queue ID for users who can update the record while locked. This new capability allows Salesforce Admins to lock records during user reviews, expanding Flow’s functionality beyond what was previously possible only through code.

Data Transform Mapping Tips provide a guided experience for mapping and transforming complex nested data structures. These tips show in-context errors when something is wrong, helping users understand and correct mistakes without having to decipher error messages from the top of the flow. For example, if mapping a field from a collection, you can only map to the same collection once a mapping is set. This feature makes it easier for less technical users to understand mapping constraints, as in-context tips explain errors right next to the field. This improvement makes the mapping process much easier to use.

Sales Cloud

The new More Actions in Intelligence Views feature allows users to quickly take action on contacts, leads, and accounts. Previously unavailable in list view, standard and custom quick actions now appear as buttons on the Intelligence view. Users can also update multiple records at once when inline editing. Use cases include sending an email to a contact list, changing ownership of multiple leads, or adding a label to a group of accounts. This enhancement significantly boosts sales rep productivity by enabling bulk updates and streamlined actions within the Intelligence view.

The More Actions in Pipeline Inspection feature allows users to easily keep their pipeline up to date by enabling list view actions directly within the Pipeline Inspection view. Standard and custom quick actions from the list view now appear as buttons on the Intelligence view, allowing users to update multiple records at once during inline editing. Use cases include updating the close dates of multiple deals, adding products to opportunities, and creating quotes without leaving the Pipeline Inspection view. This feature significantly boosts sales rep productivity by streamlining pipeline management tasks.

The new feature to Identify Potentially Risky Contacts on Deals in Pipeline Inspection helps sellers and sales managers recognize when a poor relationship with a contact could jeopardize a deal. By enabling the Buyer Relationship Map feature and creating a Buyer Relationship Map for an opportunity, contacts can be manually marked as detractors or automatically identified using the Automatic Contact Enhancements feature. This insight is shown in the Pipeline Inspection side panel when found, allowing users to view the detractor’s relationships directly from the insight. This helps sales teams adjust strategies to close deals faster.

Sales Programs

Program Packaging from Sandbox to Production allows customers to quickly deploy validated Sales Programs from Sandbox to Production orgs. This feature achieves faster time to value by enabling the easy movement of Sales Programs using packaging based on changesets. Customers can test Sales Programs in Sandbox environments and then deploy them in Production. This results in a faster time to value by streamlining the deployment process.

The Contributing Records feature allows sales reps to view the records contributing to the milestone progress within each milestone. This increases clarity and transparency in tracking Milestone Progress. Sales reps can navigate to the Detail Pages of each contributing record for further clarity. This feature provides greater visibility into how sales reps are progressing towards their Sales Program Milestones, improving trust and confidence.

Composite Milestones enable sales managers to define advanced targets for sales reps by tracking progress across multiple objects. This helps sales reps achieve metrics like activity levels, Win/Loss ratios, and Win Rates. Sales managers can set milestones using two measures and specify calculation logic (Add, Divide, Percentage) to be applied across these measures. For instance, a sales manager might set targets such as “Completing 100 Calls or Meetings” or “Close 5 deals with a Win Rate of 60%.” This functionality enhances sales rep productivity by providing clear and advanced targets.

Sales Territories

Sales Territories, previously known as Enterprise Territory Management, has been rebranded to simplify conversations around territory planning and management. This change, effective in 250, involves no modifications to the data model. Sales Territories can help businesses implement territory models and hierarchies to ensure proper account assignments, visibility, access controls, and accurate sales forecasting. This rebranding aims to enhance customer experience by reducing confusion during discussions of business cases and features related to territory management.

Customers can now add custom fields or triggers to User Territory Association Logs to track user assignment history within Sales Territories. This feature allows for greater extensibility by enabling admins to customize functionality based on the Sales Territories data model. Users can track effective dates within a territory, which may differ from the assignment dates, providing clarity and reducing discrepancies. This improvement helps maintain accurate records for user assignments, particularly for payroll and historical tracking, enhancing the overall feature set for enterprise, performance, or unlimited editions.

Service Cloud

Omni-Channel

Omni-channel can now be accessed on mobile devices, enabling users to receive and manage work on the go. This update allows users to add the ‘Omni Inbox’ to the Salesforce Mobile App, ensuring seamless integration with the desktop experience. Sales reps can now communicate with customers over SMS, WhatsApp, or other messaging channels, while shift workers can receive tasks and updates throughout the day. This enhancement improves customer response times and satisfaction, making it easier for users to stay connected and productive regardless of their location.

Omni-channel can now handle status-based messaging, allowing agents to manage conversations asynchronously. This update enables agents to pause and resume conversations, ensuring they can easily track and handle them when they resume. To enable this feature, users need to enable Enhanced Omni-Channel, navigate to Service Channels, and set the ‘Capacity Model’ to ‘Status-based’. This feature is ideal for scenarios where agents need to maintain ongoing conversations, such as 1:1 relationships, high-touch services, and account management. The impact of this enhancement includes improved worker productivity, better visibility of work, and enhanced personalized service.

Unified Knowledge

Customers can now migrate from enhanced WhatsApp to unified messaging, allowing them to reuse WhatsApp numbers across marketing and service channels. Previously, it was not possible to create unified WhatsApp channels with a number associated with a Service Cloud WhatsApp channel. To migrate, contact your account executive to purchase Unified Messaging. Then, go to the Your Numbers page in Setup under WhatsApp, click Add Number, and follow the prompts to add the number that was previously in use in Service Cloud Digital Engagement. This update streamlines the customer experience, improves customer satisfaction, and enhances the functionality of marketing and service integrations.

Customers can now upgrade standard SMS or Facebook Messenger channels to enhanced channels, providing optimized architecture and performance. Previously, upgrading was not possible, and customers had to create new channels. To upgrade, go to the Messaging Settings page in Setup, find your channel, open its action menu, and select Upgrade to Enhanced. Verify that you’ve completed the necessary tasks and click Upgrade. This upgrade allows customers to preserve their channel data and preferences while making a few changes, such as updating routing settings. Enhanced channels are now generative AI ready, further improving service capabilities.

Users can now register 10-digit SMS long code numbers and toll-free long code numbers directly in Setup, improving the registration process. Previously, a web form was used to register numbers, and tracking registration status was challenging. To register a new SMS channel, open a case requesting the channel. Once the case is closed, go to Setup, navigate to the Regulatory Compliance page under Messaging, and click “Register Long Code” to register a US or Canadian 10-digit long code number, or “Register Toll-Free” to register a toll-free long code number. This streamlined process provides faster time to value and increases CSAT by simplifying number registration and enhancing user experience.

Users can now attach all Salesforce files they have access to in conversations, enhancing file sharing capabilities. Previously, only Salesforce files with a public link were available to send, and there was no option to set an expiration date on a public link or preview a file before sending it. To configure this, simply select the file you want to send, set an expiration date on the public link if needed, and preview the file before sending. This update is useful when there is a need to limit file visibility publicly and by a specific time period. The impact of this enhancement is that it significantly improves the flexibility and security of file sharing in conversations.

Email-to-Case

Customers can now restrict email routing addresses that appear in the “From” dropdown list on a Case, addressing a highly requested feature with 6930 points on the Idea Exchange. To configure this, customers set up a permission set for routing addresses and grant access to agents as needed. This is useful for customers who do not want every Email-to-Case routing address visible to all agents, allowing agents to see only a compact list of relevant routing addresses. The impact of this enhancement is a streamlined experience for agents managing cases.

Field Service

Scheduling and Optimization

Organizations can now set visiting hours that automatically adjust to the service territory timezone instead of the headquarters timezone. This new feature introduces a parameter at the Org level to align visiting hours with the territory’s time zone, ensuring accurate and relevant service scheduling. For instance, if a company headquartered in New York has locations across the US, visiting hours will adjust to the local time of the service territory, not the headquarters. This enhancement boosts productivity and trust by ensuring service windows align correctly with local customer needs.

Scheduling and optimization services now account for operating hours in both primary and secondary Service Territory Management (STM) time zones, enhancing resource management across time zones. For example, resources servicing adjacent cities like Columbus, GA, and Phenix City, AL, which are in different time zones, can now operate efficiently across both areas within a single shift. This improvement increases resource productivity and utilization, reduces travel costs, and improves response times to service appointments.

Field Service Mobile

Field workforce can now easily identify and store opportunities or leads discovered in the field by using a flow template to seamlessly create lead or opportunity records based on information provided by technicians. This feature allows mobile workers to capture new customer interest and schedule follow-up calls or marketing data entries efficiently. This improvement helps generate revenue and boosts NPS/CSAT by ensuring timely and accurate data capture.

Mobile workers can now access organized files quickly and easily with a custom tab in the Salesforce Field Service (SFS) app. This feature allows workers to view files in structured folders, providing a dedicated repository for all necessary documents. Mobile workers can brush up on company policies, best practices, and how-tos while on the go, enhancing their productivity and satisfaction. This improvement drives operational efficiency by ensuring that workers have the right information at their fingertips, even when they are not connected to a specific work order, work order line item, or service appointment.

Field workers can now accurately navigate to work and customer sites using the Navigation Source feature. This update allows users to determine if the app should use latitude/longitude or address information to navigate to service appointment locations. Field workers can easily navigate to their designated sites, enhancing productivity, effectiveness, and safety by ensuring accurate and efficient routing. This improvement is particularly beneficial for field service operations where precise location data is crucial for timely and effective service delivery.

CRM Analytics

Users can now launch flows directly from their dashboards and map context into the flow with clicks, enhancing interactivity and engagement. This feature is available in open beta and can be accessed through text widgets. By launching flows from the dashboard, users can create more interactive, engaging, and actionable content. This update is designed to improve user productivity by integrating flow actions into their dashboard experience, making it easier to trigger processes and workflows without navigating away from their main workspace. This enhancement is also available in the mobile version, ensuring a seamless experience across devices.

Experience Cloud

Customers can now instantly adjust section heights for professional, custom layouts. This update allows users creating websites the flexibility to control the whitespace and sizing of individual sections. Users can specify custom minimum heights for sections in pixels, rems, ems, view-widths, or view-heights, ensuring that content fits properly and the overall layout looks polished and intentional. If the content within the section or columns is taller than the specified height, it will expand to fit the content. This feature saves time by allowing users to quickly tweak spacing without needing to code up a custom layout or use CSS, providing a more polished, professional site layout.

Customers can now toggle between stacked (row) and unstacked (columns) layouts with one click for different devices in the Section and Columns components. This update provides control over mobile layouts by allowing users to specify column stacking behavior for each device form factor (Desktop, Tablet, Mobile). The specified behavior on one form factor does not apply to any other, enabling users to create unstacked layouts on mobile and tablet that differ from the default stacking behavior. This flexibility allows for more layout possibilities, eliminating the frustration of fighting against the default responsive behavior.

Customers can now control the padding, colors, and label fonts of forms on their sites without needing to code. In Experience Builder, users can configure the design of forms by going to Theme > Forms, and specify colors by going to Theme > Colors > Advanced to find the expanded Forms Accordion. To configure the height of buttons, users can go to Theme > Buttons and control the space above and below the text inside each button. This feature allows for more control over site design, enabling customers to style forms and buttons with clicks instead of code, saving time and money.

Marketing Cloud

Admins can now automate operational email sending through Engagement Studio and send non-marketing emails to prospects that have opted out. This feature addresses a top idea on IdeaExchange, enabling the automated sending of legally required notices and other terms of service changes. Marketers can improve the customer experience by automating critical messages and eliminating the administrative overhead of sending operational emails as one-off list email sends each time. This feature is available in all Account Engagement Editions.

Health Cloud

Managers and coordinators of the provider network process can now immediately use pre-built applications for Recruitment, Credentialing, and Contracting that are pre-configured and available from the App Launcher. This feature addresses the need for readily available applications to minimize implementation costs. A recruitment specialist, contracting specialist, or credentialing specialist can open the application to view all provider applications in their respective stages. This improvement reduces implementation costs and accelerates time to value, available only with a PNM Add-on License for Enterprise Edition and above.

The out-of-the-box Group Benefits Lightning Application now includes pre-configured page layouts and a home page, enabling sales agents to quickly produce health insurance quotes for employers. Admins can clone and configure the out-of-the-box flows (e.g., Omniscripts) used for quoting, document generation, and member enrollment to meet specific needs. For example, a small group employer can call a health insurance agency for a quote, and the sales agent can use the small group quoting flow to provide the necessary information efficiently. This enhancement improves sales agent productivity and is available for Enterprise Edition and above.

Patient Service Case Agents can now initiate a manual verification flow to provide details related to the patient, practitioner, prescribed drug, and pharmacy. This creates a request to capture pharmacy benefits coverage information, such as copay, coinsurance, deductibles, and more, using industry-compliant data models (FHIR & NCPDP). The benefits coverage information is then used for making informed decisions in various downstream activities, including prior authorization and financial assistance programs. This enhancement improves and speeds up access to care for patients, and enhances prescription adherence, available in Professional Edition and above.

Einstein

Customers can now integrate a conversational AI assistant, Einstein Copilot, into the user experience of every Salesforce mobile application. This feature helps users get trustworthy answers to their questions quickly. To enable this, the GA purchase of Einstein Copilot is required, and Org Perm must be activated. Einstein Copilot enhances productivity by assisting users within their workflow, allowing them to ask questions in natural language and receive relevant, secure answers based on proprietary company data. This reduces the need for support, thereby increasing overall efficiency.

Mobile users can now leverage Einstein Generative AI to update fields on record pages using the Einstein Prompt Builder Field Input. This feature is configured via Prompt Studio and enabled through Dynamic Forms, with Einstein Field Gen applied in Lightning App Builder to maximize the benefits of Einstein AI. With Einstein Field Input, users gain the power of advanced artificial intelligence on their mobile devices, ensuring accurate and efficient data entry. This enhancement increases productivity and enables faster record updates, streamlining the overall data management process.

Organizations can now integrate their knowledge from third-party systems like Confluence, SharePoint, and external sites into Salesforce using the Unified Knowledge feature. This enhancement allows for improved case resolution, self-service, and grounding of Generative AI in comprehensive knowledge bases. Users can self-enable this feature in Setup, with a free usage period limited to 3 months before requiring a contract with ZoomIn. By utilizing this feature, organizations can leverage all available knowledge during case resolutions and enhance AI capabilities with third-party data. This results in a more complete knowledge base, reduced average handle time, and increased case deflection.

Customers can now generate campaigns more efficiently and consistently using the new Brief Standard Object in Einstein Campaign Co-Pilot. This feature allows customers to leverage AI to build campaign content within their current workflow. By creating a brief manually or through AI, users can build a simple single email campaign flow, grounding and personalizing their messages based on the brief details. This enhancement is ideal for quickly setting up marketing campaigns or using AI to streamline the process. The impact of this feature is faster campaign creation and more efficient content generation by harnessing the power of AI.
