Hey, welcome back to AI in Action. I’m Eric Housh, joined as always by the one and only Zack Terry, Fast Slow Motion’s Director of AI. How’s it going, Zack? It’s going great today. I’m so excited for this episode. We’ve got some great guests—can’t wait. Our guests are Peter Inge and Will Blackburn. These guys are pretty legendary in our hometown of Birmingham, Alabama—co-founders of DevClarity.
Their expertise is in AI coding tools, especially in the context of private equity–backed tech companies. They’ve had a front-row seat to how AI is shaping software development and adoption. Super excited to dig in on that. We’ll also hear a little about Birmingham AI, an actual community Will founded that’s grown into one of the most active AI meetups in the Southeast.
I understand there are over 400 members now—they’re bursting at the seams. They’re now implementing a breakout strategy. Really exciting stuff for our hometown. But first, let’s tee up a few of the big developments across the AI landscape. I’d love to see what Will and Peter think of these.
Peter and Will, welcome to the show.
Thank you—thanks for having us.
OpenAI is always making news, and this week is no exception. A couple of huge things there, plus Gartner’s new AI Hype Cycle. Can’t wait to dig into that. Let’s start with GPT Pulse.
The OpenAI news has really gone crazy over the past few days. Pulse—if you have a pulse on the AI industry, you’ve definitely heard about this—is OpenAI’s foray into a news feed–type component within ChatGPT. It’s basically a proactive AI assistant that can work overnight to deliver personalized briefings based on your chat history and connected accounts like Gmail and Calendar. It’s rolling out to Pro users for $200 a month.
I think this represents an interesting paradigm shift for AI—from waiting for you to prompt it to anticipating what you need. It can push notifications to you. I also think this may be a foray into advertising for ChatGPT—a way for them to open up additional revenue sources.
Yeah, I want to chime in here. I actually have the Pro membership and have been using it this past week. So many new features or tools come out with a lot of hype, and I always think about what I actually end up using. This is a feature I’ve used every single day since it came out, which honestly caught me by surprise.
I didn’t think I would use it, but it’s really good. I went in and added some of my interests, but it’s also paying attention to my conversations. I was talking about a book a few days ago, and today when I opened ChatGPT to ask another question, it surfaced more things related to that conversation. It’s super interesting—and I’m a fan.
That’s awesome. Sounds like you went in with measured expectations and were pleasantly surprised by how useful it was.
Exactly.
Yeah, it seems so simple—it’s like, aren’t there other newsletters like this?—but it just works, and it works well.
Awesome. I love to hear that. Especially in a space like AI, where things are changing so rapidly—it’s a bit meta, but using AI to keep up with AI itself can be effective.
Obviously, it’s early days. I haven’t used it that much myself yet, but that’s what I’m looking forward to the most.
Yeah, I use AI to tell me about AI and the things that are going on. Even these news topics—I use AI to help me find them and decide what to talk about.
Awesome. Moving on to the next one—more OpenAI news. The Stargate infrastructure project continues to expand. They’ve opened their flagship data center in Abilene, Texas, as part of the $500 billion Stargate project. Five more are planned for the future. This one is scaled to one gigawatt of capacity—which sounds like a *Back to the Future* reference—and that’s enough to power 750,000 homes. Stargate is the biggest AI infrastructure project in history. Eric, what do you think—are we entering bubble territory, or is this what it’s going to take going forward?
